Doncaster RLFC: Selection dilemma for Horne ahead of Sheffield Eagles clash

The former Hull FC man is available again this weekend after missing the win over York Knights on the opening day of the league campaign after receiving a one-match ban for a high tackle in the Challenge Cup defeat at Widnes in February.

The Fijian international was arguably the pick of the club’s close-season signings in their opening three cup games prior to his suspension, and although Horne will probably be reluctant to change a winning side he is likely to find a place for him in a pack where he is not short of options.

Said Horne: “There is a lot of competition for places and it was hard selecting the team to play York not least at full-back between Craig Hall and Josh Guzdek because they are both good players and the both offer something different to the side. We went with Craig and fortunately it paid off on the day.”

Looking ahead to Sheffield’s visit, Horne said: “They won their first seven games and were unbeaten prior to losing against (World club champions) Wigan at the weekend in the Challenge Cup at the DW Stadium. They are a quality team and are always in the play-offs so if we get in and around them then we know we are not too far away.

“It’s going to be a challenge for us but we’ll be up for it and we’ll prep the boys the best we can this week and we’ll see what happens on the day.”

Doncaster were scheduled to travel to title favourites Wakefield Trinity on Sunday week but will now entertain the relegated Super League side at home due to problems at Trinity’s ground.

The Dons, who will likely record their biggest gate of the season for Trinity’s visit given the upsurge in support following their takeover by a millionaire local businessman, will now visit the West Yorkshire club on September 29.

The fixture reversal means that the Dons’ next three fixtures will be at home giving their fixture list a rather lopsided look.
