Part of a major road in and out of Doncaster will be closed to allow for gas works to take place over the next couple of months.

National Grid is upgrading nearly 400 metres of ageing gas main in Balby Road which will see the existing metal main being replaced with a tough new plastic pipe that will last at least 80 years.

There will be a lane closure in place between Greenfield Lane and Bainbridge Road from Monday, March 27, for six weeks.

Paul Martin, authorising engineer for the National Grid, said: "We are investing in a gas mains upgrade that will secure safe and reliable gas supplies for local homes and businesses until the end of the century. This is a complex project but we are asking people to bear with us while we carry out this essential work.

“To keep our staff and road-users safe, we need to install a temporary lane closure. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused but it is important that we replace this pipe."
