Long-time leaders Harworth Colliery have one hand on the Central Midlands League North Division championship following their 3-0 derby win over Retford in front of a 300-plus crowd.

All the goals came in the second half with Kenzie Tomlinson, Shaun Mundy and Sam Foulds finding the net.

Colliery ended the weekend nine points clear of second-placed Clay Cross Town, who have two games in hand, and with a better goal difference.

The worst case scenario would see them needing just one point from Saturday’s game at Clay Cross to condemn the home side to a second successive runners-up spot.

Harworth had gone into Saturday’s game buoyed by a 6-0 midweek win at Thorne Colliery.

Mark West led the way with a hat trick with Shaun Mundy (2) and Tom Pick also chipping in.

Fifth-placed AFC Bentley could still emulate last season’s third-place finish.

Bentley had continued their impressive late-season run with a 2-1 midweek win over visiting Dinnington Town thanks to goals by Bradley Marrison (75) and Josh Bowkett (79).

They made it six straight home wins in a fortnight when beating Doncaster rivals Askern fell 2-0 at The Avenue.

Jack Varley put Bentley in front in the 27th minute but Askern, who have dropped down the table in recent weeks, still entertained hopes of picking up a point in their final game of the season until Luke Farrar added a second goal for the home side three minutes from time.

Thorne Colliery had to settle for a consolation goal by Lee Mills when going down 4-1 at home to Dronfield Town Reserves at Moorends Welfare.
